Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, debuts on Netflix
After several anticipated blockbusters, such as Shamshera and Laal Singh Chaddha, failed to connect with viewers against the backdrop of the "BoycottBollywood" trend, leading to a dramatic decline in foot traffic, multiplexes PVR and Inox Leisure are likely to post losses for the September quarter.
Box office results for Laal Singh Chadha
The film failed miserably at the box office and made only about Rs 60 crore during its whole run. It joined the group of Bollywood films that failed miserably at the box office, including Attack: Part 1, Anek, Dhaakad, Samrat Prithviraj, Liger, Jersey, Heropanti 2, Runway 34, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Raksha Bandhan, and Dobaara.
Reduced foot traffic
According to Prabhudas Lilladher's channel checks, foot traffic may have decreased by 30–40% from the June quarter.
Outlook remains positive
PVR and Inox Leisure's stock prices have recently corrected. However, PVR is up 30% and Inox Leisure is up 42% year to date.
"We believe that PVR and Inox Leisure may have a comeback as content starts to perform well, even though they have fallen by 21% and 17% from their recent peaks. We feel that the benefits of the upcoming merger in terms of cost and revenue synergies are not yet factored in. We predict that the combination would likely result in a significantly more powerful organisation with significant negotiating power toward the ecosystem, "According to Nirmal Bang Institutional Equities.
